According to Signify, the company behind the Philips brand, the rise of urban living and indoor lifestyle preferences is driving an increase in “light points” across households. This is pushing the demand for more efficient energy usage, paving the way for the growth of smart lighting solutions.
Market Value and Growth Outlook
According to Statista, the Thai lighting and light bulb market is projected to reach approximately THB 9 billion by 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 6.30% from 2025 to 2029.
Urban Lifestyle Drives Smart Lighting Demand
Mr. Jarganathan Srinivasan, Market Leader for ASEAN Commercial Consumer at Signify, explained that lighting remains an essential commodity in Thai households. With around 23 million households in Thailand, only 15% (approximately 4 million) are currently using smart home technologies. This leaves a massive 85% market opportunity for expansion, particularly in wireless lighting and smart lighting systems.
The growth of urban populations and indoor-centric lifestyles are fueling the demand for more lighting points in homes. This shift is creating a clear path toward smart lighting adoption as consumers seek more energy-efficient and connected solutions.
Signify’s Smart Lighting Strategy
In recent years, Signify has introduced the Philips Hue product line into the home IoT lighting market. Positioned in the premium segment, Philips Hue targets consumers with strong purchasing power who seek sophisticated smart lighting control.
During the pandemic, which boosted lighting market demand, Signify expanded its smart product lineup with WiZ, a new wireless lighting IoT platform. Through Philips Smart LED with WiZ Connected, the company enables users to upgrade regular LED bulbs to smart lighting via the WiZ app—effectively widening access to mainstream consumers and home decor enthusiasts.
Recently, Signify officially launched WiZ as a standalone brand targeting younger, tech-savvy consumers familiar with smart lighting solutions.

Mr. Ronwit Sonritchingchai, Director of Corporate Communications and Marketing at Signify Commercial (Thailand), emphasized that WiZ products allow users to control lighting through the WiZ app. The product range includes:

- RGBIC LED light strips
- Bendable decorative LED strips
- Lamps and more
These products offer unique and personalized lighting experiences, combining aesthetics with smart technology.
Market Outlook and Brand Expansion
Mr. Jarganathan concluded that while non-connected lighting products (e.g., traditional Philips bulbs) still dominate the Thai market, the introduction of new smart lighting brands like Philips Hue, Philips Smart LED with WiZ Connected, and WiZ will help increase the market share of connected lighting in the coming years.
